Salvation is a Gift

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

The best part of salvation is that it is a gift. God gives us eternal life the moment we believe on Jesus Christ. If salvation is a gift from God, that means He paid for it, and it always belong to you. You do not pay for it or earn it in any way.

In Romans 6:23, we see the wage and the gift compared. The only thing we earn by our works is death. That is what we deserve. On the contrary, salvation is a gift that we do not elicit or earn.

Salvation is referred to as a gift in these verses: John 4:10; Romans 5:15, 16, 17, 18; 6:23; and Ephesians 2:8.

The Holy Spirit is also referred to as a gift: Luke 11:13; Acts 2:38; 8:20; 10:45; 11:17.
