Full Assurance

In our Lord Jesus Christ, we have “full assurance” of many things. The word representing the phrase appears four times in the Bible. It is a comprehensive confidence in our Lord Jesus Christ.

That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:2-3)

The apostle Paul wanted the saints of Colosse to have unity and full assurance of understanding. Of what? “the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ.” The Father is God, and the Son is God, but they are distinct persons. In Jesus Christ is where to find the treasury of wisdom and knowledge. These things are not found in the university or the library. If we want all wisdom and knowledge, we go to our Lord Jesus Christ. We have full assurance of wisdom and knowledge in Him.

For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. (1 Thessalonians 1:5)

The Gospel is powerful because the Holy Ghost is there working when it is preached. In this we have full assurance of the gospel’s power, that it is not empty words from men.

And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end (Hebrews 6:11)

Because wisdom and knowledge are found in Jesus Christ, and the preaching of His gospel comes with power from the Spirit, we must cling with full assurance to that hope of eternal life, continuing to the end.

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:22)

Likewise, because our Lord Jesus Christ entered into the holiest, affirming the full purchase of our sin debt with His own blood, we must cling to Him in full assurance of faith.

He gives us every reason to have full assurance in Him.
