Come to the End of Ourselves †

2022-08-23

As a Christian, I always knew I wanted to serve the Lord. I thought it was in fulltime ministry once upon a time. However, in fact, I have done little service to Him. This is because I have come to Him in my own strength.

God is holy. The unholy cannot accomplish God’s holy will. Only He can do that. “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not” (Romans 7:18).

How many things I did that I thought was will of the Lord! But here I am, with a bundle full of wood, hay, and stubble. I either could do literally nothing for Him, or I did something that may have looked like the Lord’s will, but most certainly was not. How many posts on this site, though they may even be factually correct, were not from the heart of the Lord.

Lord, we need you to do your work through us, else, nothing will be done. “Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second” (Hebrews 10:9). We ask Him and rely on Him that He will do what He desires through us.

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. (1 Thessalonians 5:24)

We must come to the end of ourselves. Or rather, the Lord must bring us to the end of ourselves.
