Do Not Trust Yourself
2021-09-01
You are never too big to fail. The moment you trust in yourself is the beginning of your downfall. Never think for a moment that you have arrived: “Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect...” (Philippians 3:12).
In our journeys in Christ, we find that faith in the accomplishments in Christ leads to victory in the Christian life. But then something changes. We feel more positively, and then we start living based on the resulting feelings which are a fruit of the victory. Or perhaps we start believing that the victory was solely ours, and self-confidence creeps in. Either way, there is a subtle shift in the object of our faith: from Christ to ourselves. Then you see the resulting fruit of the self-life.
There is a constant need for repentance all day, every day. Do not trust in feelings of euphoria, and never think the victory is yours. The flesh lies, and it will never stop. “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12). “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).
