The Devils also Believe, and Tremble

Believing in Jesus Christ is sufficient to be saved. However, many have said that faith is not enough.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. (James 2:19)

This verse is often cited to prove the insufficiency of faith. But what do the devils believe? “...that there is one God.” Demons do not trust in Christ and that He died for their sins! The verse says they are monotheists, which indeed is factually true.

Much of the chapter is talking about the uselessness of faith alone in helping others. A working faith serves others. As it has been said before by many, good works are the fruit of salvation, not the root of salvation. Trust in Christ, and He will lead you into the service you are called for.
