Delivered to Do All These Abominations (Jeremiah 7:9-10)

The people of Judah superstitiously believed that if they were in the Temple, God would not do them any harm. Surely those Babylonians would not come and destroy the Temple! Because they had the Temple and were God’s people, the people of Judah were “saved” and could freely do every evil desire that would come into their hearts.
Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations? (Jeremiah 7:9-10)
This speaks loudly to me. Many have used the grace found in Christ to do evil, “whose damnation is just.” The Lord’s grace is transformative in nature. When we sin, there is a sense of sorrow and shame.
However, many twist this grace and say things like, “we are not under the law,” “we have freedom in Christ,” etc. “For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:4).
Not everything that calls itself Christian is from Christ. This calls for both discernment and introspection.
