Complete in Him (Colossians 2:10)
2022-08-05
So many people chasing so many things, whether it be to satisfy desires, happiness, or even holiness. Why can’t we rest? What are we seeking? Why don’t things satisfy?
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:10)
In the Lord Jesus Christ, we are complete, because He is Lord of all. In the subsequent verses, we see that He administered the spiritual circumcision, “in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.” We have His circumcision. Jesus Christ fulfills all ritual.
We have His death and resurrection. “Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.” When you read baptism, don’t picture water here. We are baptized into Him, which He administered, and we have been forgiven “all trespasses.”
How about all the Old Testament laws that condemned us? “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross” (Colossians 2:14). Yet we chase religion with its experiences and not the person, Jesus Christ.
What about happiness and pleasure? When we pursue these, it is never enough. Maybe we tire of hearing of the stories of the rich and famous who are depressed and turn to drugs after achieving everything they wanted. We think if we become rich and famous, we will be different from those others. Then we will really be happy. But recall Solomon’s account in Ecclesiastes. Pursuing happiness is as vain as pursuing religion and not Christ.
Since we are complete in Him, we should also be content in Him.
