Come and See
2021-10-09
When two disciples heard about Jesus from John the Baptist, they (literally and in a physical sense) followed the Lord immediately. When the pair asked where He was staying, Jesus told them, “Come and see” (John 1:39). One of the men, Andrew, then went and brought his brother Peter to see Jesus.
Later, Jesus told Philip, “Follow me” (John 1:43). We are not told that Philip followed Jesus. Instead, we see how Philip followed Jesus: He went and found his friend Nathanael and told him about Jesus.
Nathanael asked, “Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?” And Philip responded, “Come and see” (John 1:46).
When Jesus tells us to “come and see” and to “follow me,” our response should be to go to others and invite them to follow Jesus Christ. Why should we do that? What can Christ possibly offer us? “Come and see.”
This is true emancipation from hopelessness, in that Jesus died for our transgression, but rose again. He is the hope of eternal life.
