Chronological Teaching: Themes to Emphasize in the Teaching
2012-08-18
The most fundamental themes are what we want to emphasize in the teaching:
- The sovereignty of God due to his creating power and ownership over the universe. He does not change, but people do.
- What sin is and how we are estranged from God because of it.
- How God is holy but also merciful.
- Humankind is in the image of God, but now that image is significantly marred because of sin.
- Every person is a sinner and sins, by choice and by nature.
- Every person is destined to death, and ultimately to hell. Humankind is absolutely helpless to do anything about it.
- People must trust in God in order to be saved.
- Satan and his minions are out to destroy people, but are not God and ultimately answer to God.
You will likely realize that the book of Genesis does a very good job on its own answering these questions, so you will include many portions of Genesis, especially the first several chapters. You want to be thorough enough so that people can truly see the answers to these questions, and be able to tell them back to you. It is my goal to write my own chronological teaching and make it available on this website.
Understand that the teaching through the Bible chronologically has proven effective in many parts of the world where people are blinded by evil spirits. At the same time, this is not easy and will still take a massive effort to do. You have a language to learn and people’s hearts to win before you get to this point. You have many hours of prayer if Bible preaching is on your heart. But this will likely yield results if you trust in the Lord, because he wants people to be saved even more than we do.
