Christ Hath Suffered for Us in the Flesh

Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; (2) That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. (1 Peter 4:1-2)

Since the mind is the battlefront of Christian living, the Spirit tells us to remember how Christ suffered (and died) for us. Being in Christ, the old man has been rendered powerless: “he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin.” Surely, we still sin in experience; it is the reality of life before the Lord returns. However, the new man, which is in Christ, does not sin. The purpose of our crucifixion with Christ is “that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.” Appropriating by faith what Christ has done will allow us to live and walk in the Spirit.

It is that battlefront that is called the mind that can weigh us down; what goes on there makes a world of difference!
