A Child Is Born: The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)
2022-12-04
The last name given to the Lord in Isaiah 9:6 is “The Prince of Peace.” At His birth, the heavenly host praised God, saying “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14). Before His passion, He told His disciples, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27). And again, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
Knowing Jesus is peace, but apart from Him, there is no peace. “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). “For he is our peace...” (Ephesians 2:14). “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace...” (Galatians 5:22). To have Jesus Christ is to have peace with God.
