Charity, Part VII: All Things (1 Corinthians 13:7)

2023-01-03

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. (1 Corinthians 13:7)

Christian charity does not assume the worst with people. When looking at the verse a few weeks ago, a friend brought this up. If someone inadvertently does something that seems like a slight on you, you do not assume that person was trying to harm you. It was this thought that made me want to look at “charity” in more detail.

Charity assumes the best in people. However, when they do fail you or even spitefully use you, charity “endureth all things.”

This is a much healthier way of looking at things. If you assume every time someone misspeaks that they are trying to slight you, how painful would life be?

In short, charity gives the benefit of the doubt to others. It doesn’t accuse others either openly or in secret. It forgives often when others fail.
