But They Rebelled, and Vexed His Holy Spirit (Isaiah 63:10)

But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. (Isaiah 63:10)
The children of Israel fought against the Spirit, and they quickly found themselves at war with God. Consider also the brother of the Lord, who said, “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?” (James 4:4-5). Again, the apostle said, “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would” (Galatians 5:17).
We find that every day is a battle. “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live” (Romans 8:13). We must choose moment by moment if we are to obey the dethroned flesh or our position in Christ. He says, “Quench not the Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 5:19). “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30).
Since I have the Spirit of God, I must choose His leading over appearances. I must heed His calling and not the pining of the flesh. I must believe that I am more than a conqueror because I am joined to the risen Christ, who bought me with His blood.
