The Bereans

2021-11-15

Everyone knows the Bereans’ claim to fame.

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (Acts 17:11)

They did not assume Paul and Silas were correct when they heard the Gospel. They affirmed everything through the Scriptures. There are a couple of lessons here.

First, do not assume that any preacher is correct. Do not assume that anything I write is perfect. There are so many voices out there claiming they are preaching God’s truth. In this literate era with the ubiquitous Word of God, you can check up on anybody.

Second, the Word of God has the answers to our questions. If we have questions (we do), we should search the scriptures, and do so “daily.”

The Scriptures promise a favorable outcome, for the next verse says:

Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few. (Acts 17:12)
