Before I Go Hence, and Be No More (Psalm 39:13)

O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more. (Psalms 39:13)

Psalm 39 was written by King David, of whom the Lord says, “a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will” (Acts 13:22). However, we see the king’s confession of sin and his sorrow for it this psalm. This is missing a lot in our lives: a sorrow for sin. For this reason, our Lord died, removing the enmity between us and God. Sin is the cause of death and sorrow.

Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish. (Psalms 39:8)

Our Father heard this prayer. He has secured our deliverance in Jesus Christ. However, one moment without reliance on Him can bring much misery and consequences, and possibly even shame on the Lord’s name (“reproach of the foolish”). Remember the cost of sin. In faith, walk intentionally with our Lord.
