Before Honour is Humility

The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. (Proverbs 15:33)

For the past while, I have always been dreaming of doing great things for God... dreaming, and not actually doing.

I had once had trained to go into missions, and as a family, we thought about pursuing that dream again. At one point, I also thought about pursuing a doctoral degree in theology. Not even the sky is the limit when it comes to what God can do through us.

However, after awhile of looking to God for guidance, an obvious inconsistency has become apparent in my life. I was looking to God to do these excellent things, and I was not even doing excellent work in my current situation: work, church, family... anything at all. God has blessed me in these areas, and I did not even consider that I could be (and should be) of service right here in my current situation.

I am now pursuing God in the here and now, rather than chasing dreams. If God opens the door once again to serve him full-time, let him do so! But now, we need to see what God has entrusted us with, and be faithful in those things.
