Many of the People of the Land Became Jews (Esther 8:17)

And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king’s commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them. (Esther 8:17)

After the decree went forth for the Jews enabling them to fight back against their enemies, we see that many non-Jews feared and became Jews. How and why do you become a Jew? It is like I want to become French, but I am not even part French and do not even live in France.

This means that many converted to Jehovah, the God of the Jews. As the LORD executed a massive deliverance for His people, many feared and wanted the same deliverance, for the enemies of the Jews were going to have their doom.

This is the story of the holy day, Purim. What was meant for evil by the enemy of the Jews, God turned for good. This is a foreshadowing of the cross of Christ, where the death of Jesus, which one might think is Satan’s victory, destroyed the works of the devil. The Lord rose again that we all might have everlasting joy.
