Be Careful for Nothing

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

I am a worrier. It can get to the point where it paralyzes me. Difficult tasks weigh me down, and fear of failure is always there. I wish it would go away, but it doesn’t. It may have been something that God has gotten me through time and time again, but I still worry.

However, this promise in Philippians 4:6-7 is very true. There are times that I get so paralyzed with fear that I stop everything and pray for a long time. Sometimes I pray at home for a long period even when I do not have the time. But it has been worth it... every time.

There have been tasks that have seemed insurmountable, but the results have never been as bad as I had perceived. Begging God for something, either courage, knowledge, freedom, or whatever it may be, has always helped me in one way or the other. God is good. He does hear the prayers of his people. He provides for my basic needs and far beyond. This does not stop me from questioning him again, however. I am weak. But I slowly learn to trust him again and again with my needs and wants.

“Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.” (John 6:67-68) Where will we go? There is no one else to follow. Why do we seek to trust in ourselves? Why do we worry? Why do refuse to trust him? It is amazing that he always provides. Jesus has the words of eternal life. “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).
