Armor of God

For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. (Isaiah 59:17)

The LORD saw the evil in the land and how some sought salvation and could not find it. His response was to go to battle. He clothed Himself in this way according to this verse, becoming the intercessor they longed for.

The apostle Paul references this verse. He also tells the Ephesians to put on a breastplate of righteousness and a helmet of salvation. However, he does not tell anyone to put on garments of vengeance or a cloak of zeal. The weapons he tells us of regard defense, with the only offense being the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. Let us consider the “whole armour of God” (Ephesians 6:10-20)
