He Shall Appear to Your Joy, and They Shall Be Ashamed (Isaiah 66:5)

Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed. (Isaiah 66:5)

Sometimes it is the religious people that cause the most harm to Christians. This was the case in Jesus’ day. Just because someone seems pious and calls himself a Christian does not mean that he is. It also doesn’t mean that a true bona fide Christian cannot cause harm, as we all have our moments. But not everyone who seems religious and calls on the name of Christ really is one of His disciples. “They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service” (John 16:2). But what do the apostles say? “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). The false brethren will sadly hear from the Lord one day. “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).
