Would God That All the LORD’s People Were Prophets (Numbers 11:29)

To demonstrate His power, the Lord placed His Spirit on seventy elders. Two men who also stood by, Eldad and Medad, also received the Spirit. When Joshua asked Moses to forbid it, the prophet replied:

Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them! (Numbers 11:29)

When I read through the Bible for the first time years ago, this verse stood out to me. This was a foreshadowing of something much greater to come: “I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh” (Joel 2:28). This was fulfilled at Pentecost in Acts 2:17. Today, every Christian has this blessing. It might not always seem that way, but as a Christian, you have this blessing.

Rely on Him for everything, including the small stuff.
