All in the Same Boat

“And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1)

We are all in the same boat. When we are critical of others because they do such and such sin, we are hypocrites. We were all dead in trespasses and sins before we knew Jesus.

In Matthew 7:1-5, we are told not to judge or we too shall be judged. But once we get the beam out of our own eyes, we are to help others with the motes in their eyes. What does this mean? We do not judge (condemn) others, but help others. We still call sin what it is, and we help others to lift them up. When we condemn, we try to lift ourselves up as a better class of people and justify ourselves. However, when we want to help others, we recognize that we too have sinned in the same way (or have the potential to do so). We show our victory in Jesus Christ to help them out of the miry pit.
