After His Kind

There is a refrain in Genesis 1: “after his kind.” The fruit tree yields after his kind. The birds reproduce after their kind. The cattle beget after their kind.

However, when we get to humankind, we see that we are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:26f). We are created in His likeness in Genesis 5:1. But when the Fall of humanity came, we were after Adam’s likeness and image (Genesis 5:3).

When we are born again, however, what happened? We have once again been restored to being after the likeness and image God. We are after His kind.
