Affirmed to Be Alive (Acts 25:19)

But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive. (Acts 25:19)

Paul was on trial because of his assertion that Jesus was alive. The above was stated by governor Porcius Festus, before whom Paul testified. The apostle stood before many judges and kings affirming that Jesus, who once was truly dead, was now very much alive. He didn’t believe this in a nice religious sort of way. Jesus is truly alive. If Jesus conquered death, then we must redirect our lives accordingly. This fact changed Paul’s life and the lives of countless other believers. Just because nearly 2,000 years have gone by does not change this fact.

If Jesus bore the wrath of God for our sins, why fear death? Death is only because of our sin. Jesus conquered death; if we are with Jesus, we also have conquered death. The outsiders call it “superstition.” For the believer, Jesus is the essence and source of our life.
