A Little Leaven
2016-01-05
Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us (1 Corinthians 5:6-7)
God is good. He has forgiven all of our sin. It is all nailed to the cross of Calvary. Amen and amen.
But sin continues to take its toll in everything that calls itself church. We are rendered impotent because of unconfessed sin. We are called to separate from everyone who is “called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner” (1 Corinthians 5:11). What if we are one of these? Maybe we do not practice these things openly. But what about our minds? The church has been a called a hospital for sinners, but it seems that churches have a higher calling to purge out the leaven of wickedness. Having been bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20), we are called to holy living, a standard that is so high that only the Lord Himself living in us could ever obtain to such a level.
Join me in confessing sin, and calling on the Lord to reveal His life in us.
